Remembering Pegasus…
Pegasus, beloved gentle warrior and a pillar of the Warrior’s Soul program, moved on to run free March 2nd, 2019. As program founder Dawn’s first horse companion, over the course of 30 years he was by her side impacting lives and touching hearts.
Dawn…
Pegasus, our spiritual warrior, blessed my life in October of 1993 as a 5-month-old orphaned colt.
He along with 23 orphaned mustang weanlings were part of a roundup that had serious complications due to lack of water for the dams…
Pegasus caught my eye right away as he and another little filly were the king and queen of the huge manure pile in their pen. Needless to say, he stole my heart and he still has it! Helping a large number of students from around the world— France, Japan and Italy— enter the horsemanship world with grace and humor, Pegasus has left a mark on many spirits.
We still smile at this antics… unlocking the gate to let big Dolce out to play when he thought no one was looking, greeting visitors to our ranch by quietly walking up to listen in on conversations and provide support when he felt their hearts… His powerful and gentle spirit will always bless our ranch! Thank you Pegasus is not nearly enough — but I know he understands!!
Chelsea…
Pegasus, my first love, received his well-deserved wings and although my heart is heavy and he will be greatly missed, more than anything I feel privileged to have shared my heart with such an incredible creature…
I cried many tears of joy and sadness into that big beautiful mane. From the day I met him, I knew I would never meet another horse like him! He was my friend, teacher, confidante, and I will love him forever and always. I am so grateful for the years that Dawn allowed me the honor of spending time with him. Give Marley a good grooming from us all, you big sweet man!
Laura & Roxanna…
We met Pegasus toward the end of his walk here, and the years that we got to spend in his presence were the sweetest blessing that will remain a part of our story forever.
Pegasus was a wise, gentle and patient teacher with Roxanna, a guide and comfort to me from the day I met him until our last moments together. He brought peace, groundedness and a sense of sanctuary in each step around the ranch, and I was always comforted by hearing his footsteps at night. He is symbolic of what the ranch and Dawn brought to our lives and will always be a part of our journey and in our hearts.
From the Director of the Center for Equine Health at UC Davis…
Pegasus was honored through a gift from Dr. Kelly Torrisi to UC Davis’ Center for Equine Health designated to support the Equine Tribute and Memorial Fund. This directly supports advances in equine health that will benefit horses everywhere.
The Center for Equine Health brings together world-class researchers, veterinarians, students and staff to tackle important problems affecting horse health. Their goal is to continuously provide new information and improved diagnostic and therapeutic options that benefit the equine community. Gifts such as this one have most recently supported projects that include exploring new pain relief medications for horses suffering from orthopedic pain and a study investigating the effect of riding arena surface properties on horse leg joints during jumping.
We are so deeply moved and grateful to see Pegasus’ spirit honored in this generous way.
